14 - Historic Philosophy Feature
Any recorded history is just as much, if not more, a reflection of the story-teller as it is of the story; as the saying goes, “history is written by the victors.” In recent years, there has been a push to uncover the untold sides of the Classics, to give voice to the silenced stories of the victims and the fallen. This has come in the form of reanalyses of histories and myths alike. Works of fiction are also being written, meant to supplement existing tales with new perspectives. That’s why it’s so important for
each new generation of
Classicists to continually
re-examine seemingly static
texts and stories and aim to
uncover new perspectives.
Every new translation is a
new interpretation that
brings us closer to a
complete picture of the
ancient world.
