Age-In-Grade Enrolment In Education
From 2012, there are approximately 3,500 less children enrolled at the primary level representing 5% decline across Member States. Net intake at the pre-primary level is below 80% for all countries and as low as 55% for some, which is indicative of the large number of pre-school students who are outside the system. Net enrolment is generally near 90% for all countries with lower rates at the secondary level. While countries have achieved universal primary education, the low rate generally reflects the high number of primary-aged students at secondary school.
There is a steady decline in the school- age population across the OECS
Age Distribution of Pimary Pupils
The tables in this section highlight the variation in the age-in-grade distribution across Member States. This may be in part due to differences in the entrance age and entrance date for Kindergarten. For example, the entrance date for kindergarten in some countries is 31 December in the year in which the child turns 5 years, and 31 March in other countries.
