Jennifer Lawrence
(The Hunger Games
saga) and Chris Pratt
(Jurassic World) star in this
big-budget sci-fi thriller about
a spacecraft travelling to a
faraway colonised planet with
more than 5,000 passengers
along for the ride. The journey
is scheduled to take 120 years
and, as a result, everyone on
board – with the exception
of Michael Sheen’s robotic
bartender Arthur – has been
placed into hibernation pods.
Trouble arises, however, when
two of the pods malfunction,
waking their occupants.

Although Chris Pratt
has described
the Passengers
screenplay as “maybe
the best script I had
ever read”, the
project languished
in development hell
for nearly a decade,
with everyone from
Keanu Reeves and
Reese Witherspoon
at one point attached
to the Jim and
Aurora roles.
Jim Preston to Lawrence’s
writer Aurora Lane. “Ninety
years too soon!” “We have
to go back to sleep,” pleads
Aurora. “We can’t!” replies Jim.
Realising they are completely
alone (apart from Arthur),
the dazzlingly attractive duo
sets about finding ways to
pass the time and eventually
fall in love. But then their ship
– named the Starship Avalon
– starts behaving strangely and
Jim and Aurora realise that
they and everyone else on
board is in terrible danger.
An exciting and smart
futuristic actioner packed
with jaw-dropping twists
and starring two of the most
likeable actors working in
Hollywood today. What more
could you ask for?
