Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund 2023
The Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund is a charitable organisation that has been organising annual trips to Troon for children with additional support needs since 1945 . The outing involves hundreds of taxi drivers who volunteer their time and decorate their cabs in colourful costumes , as well as musicians , clowns , jugglers and other entertainers who join the fun . The children and their carers enjoy a day at the beach with fun rides , disco , beach toys and lots more provided free of charge .
The Marr College Student News Team and the S2 News & Media elective students had a great time taking part in filming and interviewing people at the Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund in June . The students got to chat with the drivers , families , organisers and capture the community atmosphere of the day . They also learned valuable skills in journalism , media production , and communication .
The students worked with Troon TV who visited the school prior to the event to train the students in how to use the different cameras and sound equipment and also explained the different types of shots needed . Troon TV worked with students on the day and were responsible for the creation and editing of the final video which they have shared on social media and YouTube ( click here to view ).
Our Student News & Media team were even lucky enough to run in to the STV production team who were there filming the event , they kindly let some of the group try out their professional cameras !
It wasn ’ t just the student news team taking part on the day , S6 students were also in attendance , helping out in the parade and handing out flags . The senior Photography class were also at the event capturing shots of the day and trying to win the competition for best picture ! We would like to thank Troon TV for their help and support and congratulate the organisers and the participants of this wonderful event .
