ALLIES FLAG SIGNING

Written by Isla McMaster and Eilidh Smyth , S2
On the 11th of October 2023 , the Marr Allies hosted a flag signing ev ent to show support to the LGBTQ + community . Signing the flag meant you pledge against any homophobic or transphobic behaviour ; many students and staff came along to help make a difference .
Mr . Docherty stated : " The flag signing event is a good way of coming together as a community to demonstrate our school values and equality ."
The pupils felt that it showed them how anyone can be an ally no matter who you are . We interviewed Mrs Ledingham to find out more : Q : How much money was raised at the event and what will the money go towards ? A : We £ 50 and it will go towards preparing for Purple Friday . Q : What are the next steps for the Allies Group – what are the upcoming events ? A : Purple Friday is coming up and we want to continue working on being more visible across the school - we are working on a new display about Heartstopper , also there will be new social dancing rules put in place for Christmas .
The Allies Group said : “ It was important because it brought attention to the Allies and LBGTQ communities and showed that we are part of the school community . It gave us a lot positive energy and made us feel like we belong . “
We wanted to say well done to the Allies Group for organising the event !
