IEA Western National Finals
Delaney Badger , a BAHS student , and Mya Norfolk , a BAMS student , competed at the IEA ( Interscholastic Equestrian Association ) Western National Finals on June 24th & 25th , in Fort Worth , Texas . Delaney & Mya participate as community riders under the Grier School in Birmingham , PA and are coached by Chris McElyea at Eagle Valley Equestrian Center in Wingate , PA . They had to earn enough points during the regular season to qualify for the regional show earlier this spring , where only the top two riders from each class and the top two teams advanced to the National Show , where , the top 12 riders and top 12 teams from across the U . S . compete . Competitors ride horses furnished by the show host and chosen by random draw – riders compete on unfamiliar horses . The use of personal tack is not allowed and limited schooling is permitted . This equalizes competition and tests the horsemanship skills of the competitors .
Individual Day Results : • Mya Norfolk – Reserve Natl . Champion in Future Beginner Horsemanship Walk / Jog
• Delaney Badger – 7th place in JV Novice Horsemanship
Team Day Results : • Delaney Badger – Team Rider National Champion in JV Novice Horsemanship
Delaney ’ s first place in JV Novice Horsemanship on team day helped the Grier School team win the overall Natl . Championship for the upper school . The Grier School middle school team were overall National Champions , too .

PennDot Young Ambassador Program
Recently , BAHS senior - Zack Laubach , earned a place within the PennDot Young Ambassadors program in which the initiative aims “ to cultivate a new generation of community stewards and civic leaders focused on maintaining the state ’ s ecological health .” He is one of the forty junior and senior participants from all across the state . This is a nine month program that will provide education and training on topics such as litter impact , waste management , recycling , and civic engagement . Students will also be given opportunities to job shadow to help gain first-hand experience in sustainability practices . When asked what he is most looking forward to , his response was , “ I can ' t wait for opportunities to come where I help keep PA clean and beautiful .” By the end of the program , Zach hopes to “ have made a difference somewhere .” Congratulations to Zach for earning the Young Ambassador position in this program !
