“ You can ’ t have that attitude here , young man . Now , both of you get dressed ,” Admiral Dellacon ordered . “ I won ’ t have any mercy on you new people .”
So they got up and received their training schedule . The training was so hard that they would be ready for anything , or so they thought . First they did 40 pull-ups each . Next on the list was running 3 miles and back . Then they did shooting practice . Finally there was a lunch break , but they had to do it fast for they had another 5 hours of training left . Todd and Scott started to wonder if this was the right decision .
“ Hey Todd , I know I asked you this yesterday , but are we going to make it through this ?” Scott asked , now so tired that he could fall asleep on the spot .
“ Again , I ’ m positive ,” Todd said in a brave voice , at least he tried to . He couldn ’ t hide the fact that he was tired , scared , and he also didn ’ t have a great relationship with Admiral Dellacon .
“ You know , I got a letter from Chi , you know the foreign exchange student that was in our school . He said he is in the war , too , but I don ’ t know which side he is on .”
As Scott started to doze off , Todd lay there in the bed sheets , thinking about all the good times he and Scott had before this , and wondering if he was actually going to make it through this .
. . . “ Todd , Todd ! Wake up !!” Scott whispered . “ We can ’ t oversleep again .” “ Huh , what ?” Todd answered , still half asleep , “ Oh right .” He dozed off again . Scott checked the time : 4:45 am . Scott was already dressed , and today he planned to show off his work ethic to Admiral Dellacon .
