Thump , Thump , Thump . “ Who is it ?” Todd asked . “ Scott ,” Scott replied nice and loud in an excited voice . “ Well then , let ’ s get a move on ,” Todd said nervously . “ Better be first in line to get our uniforms !”
So they headed off in Todd ’ s 1968 convertible . They arrived in Rhinebeck at 8:00 am , and they were indeed one of the first in line , and this is where they met someone who would alter Scott ’ s perspective about the war forever . “ Scott Treewieler !” Admiral Dellacon shouted in a rushed tone . “ Todd Carey ,” he called next . “ Come up here and get your uniform .” Once the two men were changed into their uniforms , they went with Admiral Dellacon and began training . It would be three days before they were shipped out to Vietnam .
“ Todd , you think we ’ ll make it ?” Scott whispered later that night , when they were tucked in water tight . “ I am positive ,” Todd replied . But that was the first time Scott had ever heard his friend ’ s voice become shaky . . . .
“ Rise and shine , soldiers ! Your training starts now !” Admiral Dellacon shouted in an angry sort of way . Scott checked the time . It was only 4:53 am . “ You guys overslept !” the Admiral shouted , even louder this time , to get them fully awake . “ How could we have overslept when even the rooster isn ’ t up yet ?!” Todd snarled . He was definitely not feeling the Admiral ’ s attitude .
