necessary. Staff have a list of children requiring these. Any child who requires other medication on a regular basis may require a health care plan. Please contact the staff to discuss this. If your child is required to take prescribed medicine during school time, a form must be filled in by a parent. Forms are available from the nursery. Tooth brushing We participate in the ‘Childsmile’ tooth brushing programme. Each child has their own brush that is kept in a special brush bus. We encourage all children to participate in this initiative. If you do not want your child to participate in this venture please notify to Mrs. Ferguson in writing within two weeks of starting nursery. Head Lice Head lice are common in childhood but with vigilance and treatment it responds well. Parents are advised to routinely check their child’s head for unwanted visitors. If your child is found to be affected by head lice, support and advice can be obtained from the health visitor or Scottish Executive Health Department Tel: 0131 244 2704 Families can get free prescription treatments for head lice infection for their children and do not have to wait for a GP appointment. Sun awareness Please see the website for the most up to date sun awareness policy for nursery. Remember to sun cream all parts of the skin that have potential to be exposed to the sun just before attending nursery and advise staff if you have forgotten. First Aid If your child has a minor injury a member of staff will treat it, record it in our accident book and inform you when you come to collect your child. Please sign our accident book after you have been informed. Child Protection The safety of children is everyone’s responsibility. If staff have any concerns for a child or young person’s wellbeing, they have a duty to pass on information that will help keep that child safe. All nursery staff receive Child Protection training at the beginning of a new academic year. A copy of our child protection policy is held in the policy and procedure folder in the parent/ staff base. Parent Involvement Parental involvement is welcomed in our nursery. We welcome ideas and suggestions for improvements from parents. A suggestion box is located in the cloakroom. We also invite all parents to volunteer to become parent helpers in the nursery. Current tasks undertaken by parent helpers are: escorting children on educational visits, helping maintain the garden and general help within the nursery working with groups of children. If you can spare a couple of hours each week or for one off events please speak to a member of staff. 12
