SOCIAL SERVICES
ASSISTANCE
The Social Services team helps with the Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (SNAP), which provides timely, targeted
benefits to low-income Americans to buy groceries.
NTFB has a dedicated team of staff working to connect our clients
with social services including SNAP, Medicaid, TANF and CHIP.
NTFB holds a contract with the Texas Health and Human Services
Commission to conduct comprehensive application assistance
— answering questions, helping clients navigate through the
application process and conducting official SNAP interviews for
clients looking to obtain their benefits.
The team is regularly out in the field, often at NTFB Partner
Agencies, community fairs and most recently at NTFB’s Mobile
Pantry distributions. This partnership allows the Social Services team
to work with clients directly at distributions, offering application
assistance and scheduling interviews to connect them with benefits.
In 2015, NTFB provided access to 25 million
meals though the SNAP program.

In addition to providing direct assistance in the field, SSA’s Help
Center stations at least two call-center staff members Monday
through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. These NTFB staff members
answer questions about food assistance and provide other resources
over the phone for interested patrons.
