Youth Programs Gator Volleyball Gator athletes will learn the rules of volleyball, develop skills, practice and play in competitions. Gator athletics emphasize sportsmanship, fundamentals, and rules of the game. Participants will compete in Special Olympics (S.O.) and ITRS events. The first few weeks will consist of practicing and conditioning. All athletes must attend these practices as well as take a Skills Assessment Test to gain eligibility for S.O. competitions. All athletes must have a current Special Olympics Medical Application for Participation on file. Game locations and transportation times will vary. A schedule and tournament information will be distributed at the beginning of the season. No program August 8, August 15 and August 22. Goals: Enhance teamwork skills through practice and competitions. Enhance knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, etiquette, and increase range of motion and physical condition. This program is intended for children who are still being oriented to the water and swimming techniques. Participants must NOT be able to swim one lap of the pool. Participants may register for only one of the two groups listed below. Please bring a labeled swimsuit and towel. Goals: Feel comfortable in the water. Develop a basic understanding of swimming techniques. Increase ability to follow demonstrated one and two step directions. Increase water safety awareness. This program will blend upbeat music with easy-to-follow choreography, for a total body workout. Participants will learn a variety of dance-based fitness combinations that will help improve strength and endurance, while increasing memory and sequencing. All abilities are welcome! Goals: Increase endurance and strength through dance-based exercise. Improve memory, coordination and sequencing.
