Front Page Story
Every golfer has his most challenging hole on a golf course.
In my case, they happen to be both Index 1 holes at both
of our locations. Perhaps I just don't like long dog-leg left
Par 4 holes. Making a bogey for most weekend golfers like
myself is a good outcome. Not losing balls on either of
these holes is a bonus.
Changi Hole #11
From the tee box, one can't see the green, but there is a big
shrubbery fence to the left with menacingly looking white OB
stakes. On the far right, is a red penalty area which follows the
entire right hand of the hole.
The best line to take is off the right edge of the bunker, or if
one is quite a long hitter, over the bunkers. Long tee shots that
stray too far right will end up in the water.
The 2nd shot for most golfers is usually 180m to 160m. Many
attempts at getting 2 on result in hooks to the OB on the left,
or water on the right. The least evil hazard is the bunker that
guards the left side of the green.
Prudent golfers sometimes lay up, but because of the water
on the right eating into the fairway just before the green, many
layups have gone wrong too.
The green is quite a large one, with a steep ridge running across
the middle which slopes downwards from right to left. If the
flag is at the back left, a sudden downhill at the top left corner
can catch many golfers unaware with putts rolling off the green.
