Kranji Hole #3
Once again, the dog-leg left hole prevents you from seeing the green. OB guards the
entire left hand side of the hole, with a red penalty area on the right hand side
(sounds familiar?).
There is a red lollipop to aim at, but that's easier said than done. The best
line to take is off the right edge of the tree line, or if one is quite a long
hitter, over the tree line. Long tee shots that stray too far right will end
up in the water.
The 2nd shot for most golfers is sometimes more than 200m out if the
tee shot is not flirting with the OB enough. Many attempts at getting 2 on
result in hooks to the OB on the left, or water on the right. The least evil
hazard is once again the bunker that guards the left side of the green.
Prudent golfers sometimes lay up, but because of the water on the
right also eats into the fairway about halfway along the hole, many
layups have gone wrong too.
The green is quite a narrow one, and guarded by an
undulation about 10m before the green which has caught
many low trajectory shots which might have run on in other
circumstances. The bunker to the left isn't particularly
menacing, and has saved many golfers from going OB.
The red penalty area to the right has caught many golfers
as the narrow rough ground underneath the trees slopes
away from the hole. The putting surface usually runs
true, and is probably the only easy part of this hole.
Hopefully by the time you're reading this, we can
all go back to losing balls on these 2 holes.
Happy golfing!
