Obituaries John Arthur McCormack JOHN ARTHUR MCCORMACK GROVETON–John Arthur McCormack, 93, formally of Rich Street in Groveton, died peacefully on Oct. 26, 2016, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown where he had been a resident since 2012. He was born on May 20, 1923, in Lancaster, to James and Irene (Miller) McCormack. John grew up in Groveton and graduated from Groveton High School in 1941. He joined the US Navy; served from 1943-1946 and traveled the world on the USS Core. He was a proud veteran of WWII. He was a member of the Groveton American Legion, Post 17. John returned to Groveton after the Navy and he married Marjorie A. Driscoll on April 18, 1949; they raised six children together; they were married for 64 years before Marjorie’s passing on Aug. 1, 2013. John worked at the paper mill in Groveton in the print shop, and then went to Stinehour Press as the head pressman where he was known as “Mr. Letterman” and retired September 15, 1985. He had many interests, golfing, fishing, basketball and baseball. He was a great golfer and was one of the North Country’s famous basketball referee duo of McCormack and Emery. John was a lifelong Red Sox fan. John is survived by his six children, Karen and Dennis Maguire of Stratford; Kevin and Vicki McCormack of Sequim, Washington; Ann and Kim McCormack-Getty of Englewood, Fla.; Judi and Ivan Shannon of Groveton; Beth Styles of Lancaster; and Christine and Robert Perras of Groveton; 13 grandchildren, Tina Maguire Deblois, Lisa Maguire Wheelock, Jason McCormack, Christopher McCormack, Kate Shannon Hickey, Luke Shannon, Matt Shannon, Erik Styles, Sarah Styles, Patricia Perras James, Nick Perras, Bobby Perras, and Josh Perras; 20 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Maxine Byrne and Myrle and Harry Brown of Texas; one brother-inlaw, Eddie Driscoll of Lancaster, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Marjorie (Driscoll) McCormack; an infant son and a great-granddaughter, Jewelya Perras. Calling hours were held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016 from 5-8 p.m. at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. The funeral service was held on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor of the St. Francis Xavier Church, Groveton, officiating. Burial of cremains will be May 20, 2017, at 1 p.m. in the Northumberland Cemetery.
