he 2018 Annual Report
for the Lighthouse states, “At
the Lighthouse, we’re empow-
ering people so they can earn
a paycheck, acquire indepen-
dence, and join a community of
people who rely on them from
day one. We see those impacts
every day — a head carried a
little higher, a smile that comes
a little quicker, a stride that’s a
little bit faster. These things say:
I am contributing. I am needed
here, today.”
Since that time, the company
has made compression sacks,
shovels, jigsaw puzzles, white
boards, and over 50 years of
parts for The Boeing Company.
Their most recent contract was
for nylon-aluminum stretchers
for the U.S. Army.
T oday Lighthouse has 495
total employees — 265 em-
ployees who are blind and 35
who are deaf-blind. In addition,
there are 25 who are blind with
other disabilities. 29 percent of
employees work in aerospace
according to the 2018 Annual
Report, while 50 percent of
employees work in defense and
office products.
For naysayers that wonder how
a business employing those
with disabilities might fare, the
proof may be in the numbers.
The aerospace division brings in
more than 14 million dollars in
revenue and the defense division
charts close to 32 million dol-
lars. Manufacturing and services
sales come in at over 84 million
dollars.
