arter said, “We are a
non-profit, and the mission is to
provide jobs and opportunities for
those that are blind, deaf-blind, and
blind with other disabilities. I know
what I am doing; I am capable to
help anyone out and it is important
to me. The work is cool and there
are a lot of people more disabled
than I am. Any hardship or disabil-
ity shouldn’t affect anything you
want to do.”
He is of the mindset that “any work
that can help people to get out and
do something meaningful is great.”
2018 was the 100th anniversary of
the company which started after
WWI, primarily in response to the
military being exposed to chemical
agents. Many people came home
without sight and needed jobs. A
social group of women started the
organization with the mission to
create employment for returning
soldiers.
