“W
e have invested heavily in Wash-
ington State with this brand-new facility,”
he said. And aside from the new building
itself, Rockwell Collins recently completed
a multi-million dollar upgrade to tooling and
equipment on the inside.
Skelly said today’s plant has capitalized on
its significant FAA certification knowledge
base and aircraft modification background,
“To develop innovative aircraft interiors opti-
mization and space saving solutions.”
Today’s plant specializes in finding ways
to save space inside the cabin, allowing
for more revenue-generating seats for the
airlines. One example: engineers at the plant
came up with an “advanced-wall” lavatory,
which allows for another row of seating.
Boeing has rewarded Rockwell
Collins for its innovations in
lavatories with a sole-source
contract for 737 lavs – all of
which are finished and shipped
from the Everett plant.
