Mark 14:63   |  827 24  “This is my ­blood of the  a cov­enant, ­w hich is p ­ oured out for many,” he said to them. 25  “Tru­l y I tell you, I will not ­d rink ­again from the ­f ruit of the vine un­t il that day when I ­d rink it new in the king­dom of God.” 26  When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the ­Mount of Ol­ives. Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial 27  “You will all fall away,” ­Jesus told them, “for it is writ­ten: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’  b 28  But af­ter I have ris­en, I will go ­a head of you into Gal­i ­lee.” 29  Pe­ter de­clared, “Even if all fall away, I will not.” 30  “Tru­l y I tell you,” ­Jesus an­s wered, “to­ day — ​yes, to­n ight — ​be­fore the roost­er ­c rows t wice  c you your­s elf will dis­o wn me ­t hree times.” 31  But Pe­ter in­sist­ed em­phat­i­c al­l y, “Even if I have to die with you, I will nev­er dis­own you.” And all the oth­ers said the same. Gethsemane 32  They went to a ­place ­c alled Geth­sem­a ­ne, and ­Jesus said to his dis­ci­ples, “Sit here ­while I pray.” 33  He took Pe­ter, ­James and John ­a long with him, and he be­gan to be deep­ly dis­t ressed and trou­bled. 34  “My soul is over­whelmed with sor­row to the ­point of ­death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” 35  Go­i ng a lit­t le far­t her, he fell to the ­g round and ­prayed that if pos­si­ble the hour ­m ight pass from him. 36  “Abba,  d Fa­t her,” he said, “ev­ery­ thing is pos­si­ble for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.” 37  Then he re­t urned to his dis­c i­p les and found them sleep­i ng. “Si­mon,” he said to Pe­ ter, “are you ­asleep? ­Couldn’t you keep ­watch for one hour? 38  Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temp­t a­t ion. The spir­it is will­i ng, but the ­f lesh is weak.” 39  Once more he went away and ­prayed the same ­t hing. 40  When he came back, he ­again found them sleep­i ng, be­cause ­t heir eyes were heavy. They did not know what to say to him. 41  Re­t urn­i ng the ­t hird time, he said to them, “Are you ­still sleep­i ng and rest­i ng? ­E nough! The hour has come. Look, the Son of Man is de­l iv­ered into the ­hands of sin­ners. 42  Rise! Let us go! Here ­comes my be­t ray­er!” Jesus Arrested 43  Just as he was speak­i ng, Ju­d as, one of the ­Twelve, ap­peared. With him was a ­c rowd a rmed with ­s words and ­clubs, sent from the chief ­priests, the teach­ers of the law, and the el­ders. 44  Now the be­t ray­er had ar­r anged a sig­n al with them: “The one I kiss is the man; ar­rest him and lead him away un­der ­g uard.” 45  Go­ ing at once to ­Jesus, Ju­das said, “Rab­bi!” and k issed him. 46  The men ­seized ­Jesus and ar­ rest­ed him. 47  Then one of ­t hose stand­i ng near drew his ­s word and ­struck the ser­vant of the high p ­ riest, cut­t ing off his ear. 48  “Am I lead­i ng a re­bel­l ion,” said ­Jesus, “that you have come out with ­s words and ­clubs to cap­t ure me? 49  Ev­ery day I was with you, teach­ ing in the tem­ple ­courts, and you did not ar­ rest me. But the Scrip­t ures must be ful­f illed.” 50  Then ev­ery­one de­sert­ed him and fled. 51  A ­young man, wear­i ng noth­i ng but a lin­ en gar­ment, was fol­low­i ng ­Jesus. When they seized him, 52  he fled na­ked, leav­i ng his gar­ ment be­h ind. Jesus Before the Sanhedrin 53  They took ­Jesus to the high ­priest, and all the ­chief ­priests, the el­ders and the teach­ers of the law came to­geth­er. 54  Pe­ter fol­lowed him at a dis­t ance, ­r ight into the court­y ard of the high ­priest. ­T here he sat with the ­g uards and warmed him­self at the fire. 55  The ­chief ­priests and the ­w hole San­he­d rin were look­i ng for ev­i­dence ­against ­Jesus so that they ­could put him to ­death, but they did not find any. 56  Many tes­t i­f ied false­ly ­against him, but t ­ heir state­ments did not agree. 57  Then some ­s tood up and gave this ­f alse tes­t i­mo­ny ­against him: 58  “We ­heard him say, ‘I will de­stroy this tem­ple made with hu­man hands and in ­t hree days will ­build an­oth­er, not made with ­hands.’ ” 59  Yet even then ­t heir tes­t i­ mo­ny did not agree. 60  Then the high ­priest ­stood up be­fore them and ­asked ­Jesus, “Are you not go­i ng to an­swer? What is this tes­t i­mo­ny that ­t hese men are bring­i ng ­against you?” 61  But ­Jesus re­mained si­lent and gave no an­swer.
