Students create website for Ngaruawahia Community house. As part of their assessment Nicole Healey, Sarah Edgecombe, Letisha Burton, Georgia Field, Conner Forrest, Wade Duthie and David Tremlett-McIsaac (all students from the year 13 Computer Studies class) created websites for use in a real organisation. The students were asked by the staff of the local community house to come up with designs that could be used to advertise the community house, its services, staff and upcoming events. A presentation was made by the students at the community house and a website was chosen and will be uploaded to the World Wide Web for use online. Mrs Wendy Diamond from the community house was impressed by the excellent designs that were created and has asked that future NHS computer studies classes continue to offer support and upgrades to the website. Earlier this year, WECA and Wintec invited secondary school students and teachers to attend the “Get a Life Engineering Careers Day”. The students and teachers that attended this day were able to gain an excellent insight into pathways for engineering careers and study options with visits to Wintec combined with onsite visits to Engineering companies. This is usually open to Year 12 and Year 13 students but this year we felt it would be inspirational for our Year 11 students to get this opportunity to explore career options in mechanical engineering, automotive trades, electrical engineering and civil engineering.
