Why businesses are important to our community
February 19-23

an observation written by Chantelle Duncan for Year 10 Enterprise Studies

In Ngaruawahia there is a business called ‘New World’. This is a very important company because it
supplies the other people that live in this town with food and other supplies that they will be needing.
Katarina Hopa quotes “this community needs more shops like this because it doesn’t have all the things
my family use”. Rangimarie Morgan quotes “I like shopping at New World because the staff are friendly
and I can just pop down whenever I want.”
Sonny Rutene says “this company helps out the community out by giving jobs to people who are willing
to work “. This statement is true because there are people out there who need jobs and there are not
enough places in Ngaruawahia for people to work .The biggest company in the Ngaruawahian region is
AFFCO and you may not be qualified enough to work there. So now that people out there have jobs it
helps out other local businesses because the workers from New World will be spending their money at
other businesses. Their families will also have a higher standard of living.

EXCELLENCE ENDORSEMENT DINNER - CELEBRATING ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
On the 15th February several students, family and teachers were invited to an evening in which to celebrate the academic achievements of current and
past students. These students were: Sarah Michelle Washer, Anne Roa, Atamira Roa, Wednesday Gilbert and Raana Dennis, who all gained an
EXCELLENT ENDORSEMENT either on the overall NCEA course or a
subject.
The evening was to acknowledge academic excellence attained since 2008.
The Board and Staff are very proud of our inaugural recipients who deserve
the accolade bestowed upon them. An “Excellence Award” board has been
erected in our main foyer.
A wonderful dinner was provided by the Matariki crew. Many thanks to you,
Mrs Scott and Ms Bennett.
Also a special thanks to Solid Energy who sponsored this event.
We hope to continue this type of evening in the coming years to celebrate
future achievements of student from our school.
