News From ÖzÜ TTO The First EUREKA project of ÖzÜ: TICKOTEX! ÖzÜ Gets Two New “TÜBİTAK 1003 Primary Subjects R&D Funding Program” Awards We are proud to announce that the first EUREKA project of Özyeğin University, “TICKOTEX” has been approved.  The main objective of the project is the development of novel multifunctional textile structures that include biological active compounds extracted from plants, to prevent the spreading of infectious diseases like Borreliosis and other tick-borne bacterial diseases. The project will be lead by an international consortium including  Romania, Turkey and Czech Republic. The activities in Turkey’s side will be undertaken by Özyeğin University - Kıvanç Textile Inc., and managed in the leadership of Asist. Prof. Dr. Bahar Başım. The amount of the project budget is 1.5 M Euro. One-third of the total budget belongs to Turkey. “TICKOTEX” project is a good example of the best practices of university-industry parnerships. Kıvanç Textile Inc. has been awarded by Adana University Industry Joint Research Center for winning this EUREKA project. We congratulate Dr. Başım for this success. TÜBİTAK published the scientific assessment results of “Diagnostic, Cure and Support Purposed Innovative Medical Devices” call of “1003 Primary Subjects R&D Funding Program” in May 3, 2013. The total number of the projects evaluated for the call is 309, and only 65 of them have passed the 1st stage evaluation process. Among 65 projects, only 16 of them have been nominated to be supported after the 2nd stage evaluation process. We are proud to announce that the projects proposed by Assist.Prof.Dr. Güney Güven Yapıcı and Assist.Prof.Dr. Göksenin Yaralıoğlu were shortlisted among the 16 projects which would be supported by TÜBİTAK and Ministry of Health. The expected credentials of the proposed projects expressed as being innovative, creative, and value-added which have potential to create a basis for the larger implementation projects in the field of health through producing know-how and technological outputs. Özyeğin University is the only institution granted by support for two projects under this call. We congratulate the success of Assist.Prof. Dr. Güney Güven Yapıcı and Assist.Prof.Dr. Göksenin Yaralıoğlu. University - Industry Collaboration: Grant Programs Available TÜBİTAK 1505 University - Industry Collaboration Grant Program The objective of the program is to commercialize the know-how existing in universities/research institutes via transferring it to industry as products or processes according to the needs of industry. The partners of the projects are companies registered in Turkey identified as client institutions and the universities and public research institutions as project leaders. A cooperation agreement between the partners targeting the below focuses is required before the submission of the proposal: • Development of new products • Development or improvement of an existing product • E nhancement of the quality or standards of the existing products, developing of new techniques, production technologies or processes in terms of cost reduction The outputs of projects should have the potential to enter into market in short term. The upper limit of the project budget should not exceed 1 million TL. If the partner company is a SME, project can obtain up to 75% of the funding from TÜBİTAK. The remaining 25% funding must come from the SME as cash contribution. If the partner company is bigger than SME in scale, project can obtain up to 60% funding from the Ministry. The remaining 40 % funding must come from the company as cash contribution. • The duration of the projects should not exceed 2 years. • If you have already a project idea and a partner, TÜBİTAK also supports your feasibility studies with a grant of 10.000 TL. • There is no deadline for proposal submission.
