3 Mr July - Member Profile A Ulysses member since 2010, our rather shy Mr July is Alan Shaw, and he lives “somewhere near Tathra”. He says that retirement, and the winding roads brought him to the area. Alan has had too many bikes to remember but he currently has five in his stable… three are roadworthy and the other two are projects. Alan has been riding (legally) since 1958 when his father and uncle bought him his first bike, a 1948 ExArmy Norton 500cc 16H, which he used to travel the 9 miles to and from his bonded apprenticeship. His best ride (on a motorbike…) was at the Isle of Man and his longest recent ride has been to Sydney. Alan’s favourite bike has been his Kawasaki W650. Kianinny BBQ – by Les Well, a few Wednesday’s ago we had a pleasant surprise waiting for us at our coffee and blah blah at Tathra. Young Rob invited any and all to an impromptu BBQ lunch at Kianinny boat ramp and picnic site. Eight of us Karen, Rob, John, Tony, Graham, Bruce, Ross and myself were able come. The weather capital P, perfect. The venue, 9 out of 10. The ride was an arduous one and two rider's, due to extreme fatigue and galloping hunger and thirst missed the last turnoff and rode on and on for at least 400metres only to arrive at a lookout. Never fear, Bruce with his seafarer's longsight put his hand to his brow and shouted " thar they be-Landlubber Ulyssians BBQing!!-so we struck out around another bend, this time our noses leading us truly to a great snag feast!!. Rob had all the works for a good BBQ - snags, onion, bread, coffee and tea. We all genuinely had a lovely relaxing, refreshing hour or so, with the park to ourselves and able to watch a few boaties and pelicans going about their business. Thank you Rob!
