WORKSHOP SPOTLIGHTS

Dilan Dalkiran | The Netherlands

Last semester I conducted a cultural workshop called ‘’ A Brief Introduction to the Netherlands ’’. The Netherlands consistently ranks among the top places in the world to live and work . It may be a small country in size , but certainly not in impact . This workshop shed light on different facets of the Netherlands . An introduction video to the Netherlands was shown , which displayed facts and figures . We discussed Dutch landscapes , cuisine , culture , customs , multiculturalism , art , architecture , and cycling culture , as well as the country ’ s tolerant drug policy . The students were very proactive and raised a lot of questions about the logic behind the tolerant drug policy and Dutch lifestyle and compared these to their own culture .
Through various quizzes and activities students got a chance to gain more in-depth knowledge about the Netherlands . Students were asked to come on stage and read out loud one presentation slide each in order to improve their English reading and speaking skills . I received very positive feedback from the students as they found the workshop very informative and enjoyed the variety of activities , as these helped to shape a dynamic workshop without a dull moment .

Sasha Sikorska | Ukraine

Throughout the year , I have held a variety of different cultural and academic workshops . But there ’ s one workshop that I always enjoy conducting – the one about my country , Ukraine . In this workshop , I focused on how history influences people ’ s modern-day lives , how the recent revolution made an impact on how we envisioned our future , and how younger people have developed totally different views from the ones their parents have had . I also share information about Ukrainian culture and talk a lot about the food .
At the beginning of the workshop , I asked students what they know about 烏克蘭 , and it was pleasant to see that at least a few of them had heard of the country and knew a few facts about it . Given the opportunity to write about my workshop , I want to thank all the students who attended it and gave me the opportunity to think and learn even more about my country by asking questions and participating in the discussions . I am looking forward to seeing you at my future workshops !
