Making a Magazine
W
e are so fortunate to have a talented group of regulars who make
Naturally Kiawah both entertaining and informative. First and
foremost is our dream team: associate editors Tina Schell and Sue
Corcoran, who bring editing, writing and photographing skills,
and our proofreader Pamela Buongiorno, who keeps us inside the box. Jennifer
Wilson Woody and Justin Core from the Kiawah Conservancy staff keep us on the
straight and narrow—or at least try their best. We count on our chorus of regular
voices from Jake Zadik, Jane Ellis, Chris Widuch, Frances Boyd, Chris Sudell, and
Jack Kotz, who hit the right notes every time. We are so fortunate in this issue to
have authors new to our pages, including Leslie Sautter (College of Charleston),
Leigh Cobb, Sarah Burnheimer (South Carolina Aquarium), Scott Nelson,
Juliana Smith, Sylvia Bacon, Lynne Sager, and Eric Horan. We thank them all! NK
Lynne Sager graduated from the University
of Massachusetts Amherst and spent her
professional career as a health and physical
education teacher. She was also a competitive
gymnast—an activity that may have helped
prepare her for the strenuous position as permit
holder for the Kiawah Island Turtle Patrol.
She knew about loggerhead turtles long before
she moved to Kiawah and has recently added
bottlenose dolphins to the Island critters with
whom she works.
Leigh Cobb has degrees from Smith
College, Georgetown Law School and
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School
of Public Health. She has devoted
her career to non-profits engaged
in expanding health care and dental
services to underserved populations,
particularly children. Now a full-time
resident of Kiawah, she is thoroughly
enjoying her participation on the
Conservancy’s Environmental Science
and Habitat Committees and on the
Turtle Patrol.
