Taking the “Green”Initiative:
Litos Strategic Communication
and Refried Tees
“You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across,
your ideas won’t get you anywhere.” – Lee Iacocca
The 2016-2017 Official Guide to
Nantucket represents 15 years of the finest
quality in design and production by Litos
Strategic Communication, a New Bedfordbased branding and marketing consultancy
firm. Established in 1984 by Mark Litos,
the company’s reputation for creating and
implementing innovative, results-oriented
marketing solutions is unparalleled.
(Visit their website at www.litossc.com.)
With its impressive roster of sustainabilityoriented clients, Litos is duly proud of its
30-year involvement in virtually all sectors of
energy – from energy efficiency to demandresponse to the Smart Grid; from utilities
to transmission to technology; from LNG
to renewables. For the US Department of
Energy, Litos produced “The Smart Grid:
An Introduction”; it was the first book of
its kind to convey, in layman’s terms, the
power and promise of the smart grid to a
broad audience. “Iconic Ivanpah”, another
Litos publication in flipbook format, visually
captures the construction of an iconic solar
project in the Mojave Desert spearheaded
by BrightSource Energy, a leading renewable
energy technology firm in Oakland,
California (www.brightsourceenergy.com/
flipbook/) “Everyone with a stake in a
sustainable energy future should see this
booklet,” Litos urges.
With Mark’s help, his wife Lisa founded
and launched Refried Tees in 2014 to
expand its upcycled niche of unique and
sustainable apparel for ladies, juniors and
little “fashionistas.” The company purchases
overstock, discontinued and slightly imperfect
tee shirts and transforms them (they call
it “refrying”) into unique works of art by
“slicing, dicing, and stitching” first-quality
cotton blends into an array of colors,
graphics and images. Voilá – a comfy, soft
and durable cotton tee shirt becomes a
tee skirt, or perhaps a mini, maxi, or tank
dress. And, in inimitable Litos fashion (pun
intended), product tag lines are clever
and eye-catching: “Funner Fashion.” “Get
Refried.” “The Tee Shirt. Reimagined.”
Vision and innovation in marketing
communications. I’m sure that Lee
Iacocca would agree that Litos Strategic
Communication and Refried Tees are perfect
case studies.
