Červený Kláštor
The village of Červený kláštor is on the Dunajec River. It is in district Kežmarok. Near the village is
river Dunajec which is border of Poland and Slovakia. Since 2006 connect Červený Kláštor and
polish district Sromowce Nizne one bridge. In Červený kláštor you can also float The Dunajec River
on the wooden rafts from the beginning of the river in Červeny klastor to Polish border. You can
float Dunajec on the inflatable float. The rafting is on the edge of National park Pieniny. Float on
Dunajec is 9km long. The river inhabiting Tri koruny and much more interesting places you can see
on the float. The journey is long one and half hour, it depends on water level. The guides are telling
about the history on your journey and about some superstitions what have happened there.
HISTORY:
Červený kláštor, officially Lechnický kláštor started to build monks after 1320 near the village
Lechnica. Now it is named by his red bricks and his paintings on the walls. His history is close back
with the members of two religious orders – Katurizan in the years 1320-1567 and Kamaldulu in the
years 1711-1782. Monks were living in in closed area named klauzura in kláštor. All of them were
directing by the password live alone with God and for God.
MUSEUM and NATIONAL CULTURE SIGHT:
The museum were accessible in 1993 after all reconstructions there. It is the historical museum of
Červený kláštor and also about the members, monks. There are so many rare historical
sightseeings from all of the area.
Area of Červený kláštor was declared for national culture sight of Slovak Republic.
