airy farmers who run Pinner Park Farm plan to build a 6.1m tall livestock shed to keep calves, prone to pneumonia, warm in winter. Historic Pinner Park Farm in George V Avenue is owned by Harrow Council which leases the property to Hall & Sons Dairy Farmers. The site is used in the development of Aberdeen Angus embryo breeding for the dairy industry.
“They are of brick and tile construction and therefore provide very little ventilation and space to operate e?ectively. Due to the poor ventilation and light the farm has a problem with pneumonia within calves.” Pinner Park Farm is a 230 acre site with a history which can be traced back to the 13th century, when it was under the control of the Bishop of Canterbury. Since the 15th century it has been leased to local farmers who have, over the centuries, grown crops and livestock at the site. In recent years some residents have raised concerns that the farm, which the public can only access via public footpaths on the estate, is falling into disrepair and should be opened up for community use. A group called Harrow Community Farm, which is keen to set up a community farm in the borough, has expressed an interest in seeing at least part of the site used to teach local people about farming and agriculture.
