"To effectively put in place preventive methods to combat diseases that enter through the feet and to create a positive physical and psychological difference in the lives of individuals in impoverished communities."

-Sole Hope Core Purpose

What are Jiggers?

Jiggers are a parasitic insect found in most tropical and sub-tropical climates. It is native to Central and South America, and has been inadvertently introduced by humans to sub-Saharan Africa.

Jiggers implant themselves usually in the feet of people. This then leads to a really bad infection in their feet. It is a treatable infection but it is hard due to the lack of awareness of the issue.

How can you help?

There are many ways that you can help with this infectious parasite called jiggers. Jam and Ryann had our class cut out shoe-shaped pieces from jeans that were donated. They then teamed up with sole hope to donate all of the cut outs to them. Those jeans will then be used in Uganda with hope that it can help people prevent themselves from getting this parasite in their feet. Another way that people can help is by spreading awareness of Jiggers. Before their project, I have never even heard of the jigger parasite. Now that i am aware of it, I am more inclined to help out in any way possible. Spreading the message would be greatly appreciated by organizations such as Sole Hope and a lot of people in Uganda.
