In most clothes shops the boys section looks quite different to the girls. There are more trousers, t-shirts with dinosaurs on them, blue, brown, green and black colours everywhere. The girls section has noticeably more pink, lemon, pastel colours, glitter, fairy prints, skirts and dresses. There are no signs with rules saying "Boys must wear blue, green, brown and black. No boys are allowed to wear skirts or dresses. And boys - don't shop in the girls section because you are a boy and that isn't allowed. Skirts are for girls only, people!!!" But - there is a message that the shop is giving you without putting it on a sign or making the people who work there say it and that is that boys should dress in certain types and colours of clothing and girls should dress in something different.
