We interviewed a number of pupils and staff members
at Lanark Primary School, to understand their thoughts
and feelings towards gender. A primary 1 boy told us that "
"Dresses are for girls not for boys.".
We weren’t surprised by his response. We are used to seeing girls wear trousers, but we aren’t as used to seeing boys wear dresses.

Traditional Clothing - Should it be a problem?
In Western society, there are different opinions about gender. Some feel that girls should stick to wearing ‘traditional’ girls clothes (skirts, dresses, high heels) and boys should stick to wearing ‘traditional’ boys clothes (trousers, suits, flat shoes). However, some people are more accepting of people dressing as they want to dress. It is a bit of a ‘hot topic’.
Some of you might automatically think that if a boy wears a dress then he must be gay.
But we want to ask you, if a girl wears trousers then would you automatically think that she is gay?
Of course not!
