The organising committee Agis Terzidis, MD, PhD Monitoring & Quality Assurance “As responsible for the MSc programmes’ curriculum, I have been present in every previous intensive seminar organised by the course. This year’s seminar has to be extraordinary and address modern challenges in the developing world, such as climate change. My experience as a paediatrician will be valuable in terms of addressing childhood diseases prevalent in the subsaharan Africa and shedding light to social challenges faced by children in those countries.” Michail Krikelis, MD, MSc Academic Programme & Fundraising “This intensive seminar has to be a unique experience for every participant. As responsible for the academic activities of the schedule, I commit for the seminar to provide deep scientific knowledge in the fields of tropical medicine, travel medicine and global health. As a human rights advocate, I commit that relevant topics, such as social exclusion and vulnerable social groups, will be studied, too. A socially responsible fundraising effort will substantially boost our efforts and will ensure success in all levels” Evgenia Fragkiskou, Public Health Nurse, MSc Social Activities & Fundraising “Social life is an integral aspect of the seminar, especially in the exotic sub- saharan area. Participants will find themselves many kilometres away from home and carefully planned activities in the daily schedule will make them feel like at home. An educational hue will be given to the social programme by raising topics, such as prevention and health promotion in the local community. As an alumnus of the MSc programme “Global Health - Disaster Medicine” I commit to bring global health challenges of Africa in scope, but in the most entertaining way. The goal will be to combine fun with knowledge. Of course, funds are an important fuel for all the activities planned and, for this very reason, fundraising efforts will be targeted and goal oriented.” Elena Cardoso, School Nurse, MSc Promotion & Participants “Click, click, click. This is the sound of the cameras that will fill the tanzanian air during our presence there. I commit to ensure a targeted promotional campaign and a vivid online representation of the seminar’s activities, with social responsibility and awareness about the local health challenges being the solid pillars. Choosing the right participants for this seminar is the most important ingredient, since it is our humans that guarantee success in all levels. Last but not least, as a nurse and an alumnus of this MSc programme, I will strive to highlight the important role of nurses in the african healthcare systems and provide a glimpse of their professional surroundings." 6
