State of Origin

Blog by Mitchell Wem

State of Origin1- The family and I were at home for this one having a barbecue and watching the origin together. Personally I have been watching the state of origin every year since I could remember and even though I am going to the next game this game was arguably one of the best origin games ever. The blues where just on fire and were absolutely unstoppable as soon as they scored the first try. This may have been because the Maroons were missing their star player Johnathan Thurston but never the less the blues played well and beat the maroons. It was good fun watching the state of origin with the family and hearing my little brothers yelling at the TV. The Blues defense in this game as well as the attack was very good, with their star player James Tedesco stopping 2 tries that would have undoubtedly been scored and likely converted as well. James Tedesco also scored a great try and set 2 up. Setting him up for man of the match for this game. The Blues came out to win it 28-4 in the end, sending the Queenslanders home with a loss.

State of Origin 2- The atmosphere was unbelievable, All the blues united as one to support our legendary team. It all started at 8:00pm on the 21st of June when we heard the buzzer and the ball was kicked off. The Queensland Maroons came out firing early, but the blues fought back hard, eventually though the maroons scored with a controversial try. Though the Blues followed this up and scored another 2 cracking tries with James Maloney and Jake Travoidavic setting Jarryd Hayne and Brett Morris up for their tries. All the time the crowd was going mental Every hit was so hard with so much passion you could see how much both teams wanted to win it. The Blues came on to the second half you could say “Flat footed” and where nothing compared to how fired up Queensland where. Every play in this half was a controversial call by the referee nearly every time the Queenslanders weren't far enough back making them off-side and all the calls and penalties seem to go to the Queenslanders. The crowd definitely saw this as well attempting to “scold” the referees and the players by yelling out stupid things and when the referee made a bad call the crowd would yell “bull shit” in sincerity and the stadium would echo these words. Eventually the Maroons scored again and the legend Jonathon Thurston made the kick for the Maroons to win the game. I was disappointed, my mates were disappointed and the whole stadium was disappointed. All and all it's just another game of “The State of Origin” and makes the stakes even greater for the next game.
