MWAA CARES School Partnership Initiative Carl Sandburg Middle School – Energy Conservation Student Artwork
The Airports Authority proudly supports College and Career Fairs in the region through the MWAA CARES ’ school partnership initiative . Staff from the Office of Diversity , Inclusion and Social Impact , as well as the Office of Human Resources visited hundreds of students at District of Columbia Public Schools , Prince Georges County Public Schools , Alexandria City Public High Schools , Fairfax County Public Schools , and Loudoun County Public Schools .
Students at each high school had the opportunity to learn about careers in the aviation industry , as well as working at the Airports Authority . Many school districts in the region offer Career Academies , which are industry-aligned college and career readiness programs that ensure students are prepared for in-demand and high-growth careers upon high school graduation and beyond .
Reagan National Airport recognized Carl Sandburg Middle School finalists in DCA ' s 19th annual Energy Conservation Student Artwork Contest .
The partnership was established in 1990 and received the Business Partnership of the Year Award by Fairfax County Public Schools in 2009 . The energy conservation student artwork competition began in 2004 as a part of an awareness effort under the Authority ’ s ongoing partnership with the school . Almost 300 students participated in the energy poster artwork competition in 2022 .
Thirty finalists were selected , based on artistic quality . Copies of these 30 pieces of art are displayed in DCA Terminal 1 outside the Lost and Found Office through December 2023 . Each of the 30 finalists received postcards of their artwork to share with their friends and family .
Some of the winning artwork has been incorporated into a 2023 Energy Conservation Awareness Calendar . These calendars are displayed throughout Airports Authority work areas to encourage energy conservation and sustainability practices .
