Bethany House and Pak ’ D Project Holiday Food and Coat Drive
The Airports Authority employees demonstrated their unwavering commitment to serving the community through generosity . Our employees collected and donated over 4200 toiletry items to two local charities - Bethany House and Pak ’ D Project . These charities are dedicated to helping people who are escaping domestic violence .
Many members of our community experience food and shelter insecurity , or the inability to meet their basic needs because of a lack of financial resources . During the holiday season , the Airports Authority sponsored a Food Drive and a Coat Drive to benefit the Arlington Food Assistance Center ( AFAC ) and the Salvation Army .
The collected items were used to create over 150 backpacks filled with tangible resources to expedite the process of leaving abusive homes . These backpacks were delivered to Bethany House , a local shelter for victims of domestic violence , which provides a safe haven for women and children in crisis , and Pak ’ D Project , a nonprofit organization formed by survivors of domestic violence for those who are planning their escape from abuse .
AFAC ’ s mission is to obtain and distribute groceries to Arlington , VA , residents who cannot afford to purchase enough food to meet their basic needs . The Airports Authority ' s donation of close to 1,500 pounds of food was especially meaningful due to the high number of family visits AFAC experiences during November and December .
In addition to AFAC , we also supported the Salvation Army with a coat drive . The Salvation Army is dedicated to creating safe and sustainable communities for all ages in the Greater Washington , DC area . During the holidays , they partner with various organizations for the “ Share the Warmth Coat Drive .” Through our support , the Airports Authority staff donated more than 220 coats , gloves , hats , and scarves to local children , adults , and the homeless .
