Connecting Our Community : Community and Youth Art Walks
The Airports Authority ' s initiatives embrace a holistic approach to community engagement , spanning artistic expression , workforce development , charitable contributions and inclusive spaces . These endeavors shape the airport environment and enhance the well-being of the communities we serve . As we strive for continuous evolution and innovation , our commitment remains steadfast in making positive differences in the lives of our passengers , local students and the broader community .
In 2023 , we introduced the Youth Art Walk at Dulles International Airport and Reagan National Airport to showcase the exceptional artistic talents of local students . Collaborating with The Links Incorporated ' s Capital City chapter and D . C . Public Schools , we displayed more than 50 pieces created by students from the Washington , D . C ., area . This exhibition at Reagan National Airport highlights artistic prowess and provides a platform for students to express social justice themes and community impacts .
The Airports Authority also hosted Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton ' s edition of the 43rd Annual Congressional Art Competition . This national competition is open to high school students from across the country to submit their artwork for a chance to win first place in their congressional district . All the first-place artwork from each congressional district will be exhibited in the halls of the U . S . Capitol for one year .
Additionally , through partnerships with Fairfax County Public Schools and the McLean Project for the Arts in Virginia , we curated an exhibit at Dulles International Airport featuring over two dozen works of art from students ranging from elementary to high school . The Art Walk underscores our commitment to nurturing artistic expression and community engagement . By showcasing diverse and impactful works , we aim to foster a vibrant and inclusive environment , enriching the airport experience for passengers .
