Workforce Development Expos : The Airports Authority ' s dedication to aviation career development was on display at two events : the Dulles International and Reagan National Workforce Development Expos , which hosted over 400 high school students from the greater Washington , D . C ., region . These expos featured presentations by airport professionals , offering insights into airport operations , the Professional Development Program , Skilled Trade Apprenticeships and Public Safety .
Abandoned Vehicles from Airports Benefit Local Automative Students : The Airports Authority donated abandoned cars to Fairfax County , Virginia , Public Schools , enabling hands-on experience in auto repair skills . More than 20 vehicles were distributed to 13 high schools , supporting auto technology education and student training programs . This collaboration empowers students and fosters work-based learning opportunities .
‘ MWAA Cares ’ in Action : Dulles International Airport ' s Lost and Found Office donated 50 pounds of unclaimed clothing to the Central Union Mission . The mission , a faith-based 501 ( c )( 3 ) nonprofit and Washington , D . C .' s oldest private social service agency , offers various services including emergency shelter , workforce development , veteran benefits , addiction recovery , food and clothing distribution , a camp for underprivileged children and ministry to families and seniors .
Career Exploration and Tours – The Airports Authority customizes tours and itineraries to match students ' interests , aiming to introduce them to airport job opportunities and forge partnerships with schools . In 2023 , the Airports Authority hosted over 500 students for career exploration tours and programs .
School Partnerships – The Airports Authority partners with 13 local schools and programs . One project included Washington , D . C .’ s Jackson-Reed High School ’ s Engineering Academy ’ s capstone project . Airports Authority ’ s employees served as volunteer judges for the capstone project , marking the culmination of students ' high school careers . Judges evaluated projects based on content depth and presentation delivery , including communication skills and idea articulation .
