Around the league Division One: South Eastern Predators 6-0 Western Crusaders: Scoring on a 40 yard punt return was enough for the Predators to win their first ever game against the Crusaders. Geelong Buccaneers 49-22 Monash Warriors: Opening their season with a Vic Bowl rematch, the Buccaneers led 22-16 at half time. Playing a great game on all sides of the ball they proved too much for a Warriors side that has gone through some changes on and off the field. The Buccaneers proved too strong and ran away with the win in the second half. Croydon Rangers 18-8 Bendigo Dragons: Many eyes were on this game with the Dragons being the first Division 2 side to announce their move in Division 1. It didn’t start well as the Rangers returned the opening kick-off for a touchdown. The Dragons forced themselves back into it, leading 6-8 at half time. However old heads prevailed and the Rangers scored twice in the second half to get the win. Northern Raiders 14-30 Monash Barbarians: The old rivals opened their season against each other in what many expected to be a very close game. The Barbarians scored three times in the opening half to have a commanding 22-0 lead at the break. The Raiders are never ones to give up, and forced the lead down to 8 before the Barbs cemented their lead and the opening win. Division Two: Ballarat Falcons 16-14 Gippsland Gladiators: Many expected the Gladiators to dominate Division 2 due to their experience however the other teams will have something to say about that. Going up 14-0 at half it looked like the Falcons would have to wait another game before getting the first score in their history. However they kept giving it everything and scored twice in the second half. An interception on the last play of the game ending it for the Gladiators.
