Rising Stars Shined Bright:
Better Your Best Finalists Impress with Success
Five finalists gave riveting presentations on the sales and marketing strategies that propelled their MSP businesses to new heights. Here are the remarkable stories of the four runners-up.
Hunter Farlow, Marketing Director, ComTech Network Solutions ComTech increased their annual revenue by nearly $ 600,000 by building a cohesive marketing process, ensuring each piece of their marketing strategy connects to the overall objective.“ In the previous years, we would run campaigns where prospects wouldn’ t buy or leads wouldn’ t convert, and it kind of felt like we were stacking bricks— or marketing strategy [ elements ]— randomly, hoping that they would turn into something,” Farlow says.“ I realized that we needed a system, a structure, and a process so that every marketing strategy brick fit together perfectly to generate real revenue.”
In his presentation, Farlow shared how tying one of ComTech’ s main marketing initiatives to the Little Pink Houses of Hope nonprofit organization not only brought the MSP 13 new clients and over $ 60,000 in new MRR, but also enabled them to donate over $ 50,000 to the charity.
Rodney Holum, CEO and Founder, Coulee Tech, Inc. Holum’ s Better Your Best presentation hinged on one idea— that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. By surrounding himself with other successful people through peer groups, Holum was able to grow Coulee Tech’ s net profit by $ 393,000, increase their revenue by $ 600,000, grow their MRR by $ 57,000, and net 46 new clients.
“ It’ s OK to be average if you’ re in the right group of people,” Holum says. His message: You’ ll still be phenomenally successful if you’ re the most average person in a room of incredibly successful people.
Lisa Niekamp-Urwin, President and CEO, Tomorrow’ s Technology Today Niekamp-Urwin has grown her MSP’ s net profit an impressive 97 % and increased its revenue by over $ 400,000 by starting small and building on her successes. Her goal was not just to grow profits but to build a business she could step away from— and for more than two weeks out of the year. Now, she’ s able to spend much more time out of the office and with her family.
“ I always felt pulled in different directions; now, my business is running like a fine-tuned machine,” Niekamp-Urwin says.“[ M ] y real goal is to be able to spend two weeks a month working remotely, continuing to grow my business. How did I make this transition? I had to build a team.”
Will Snyder, Co-Founder, WTC Managed IT Services, LLC Snyder scaled WTC and increased his MRR by over $ 95,000 a month by mastering first a local niche, then a national one.“ Once you become an expert in your niche, you can go outside your local area to have a national market,” Snyder says.“ We beat local IT companies all the time because prospects know that we know what we’ re talking about. You have to stop talking to your prospects like IT people; use the verbiage that you hear from them, so that you are using their language. That makes them feel more comfortable with you, even though you might not be in their local region.”
In the process, he also increased the MSP’ s revenue by over $ 600,000 and its net profit by nearly $ 340,000. In 2024, they added 30 new customers, bringing their client base to 70, located in 27 states and four countries.
