Kaseya Report Uncovers Top Cybersecurity Opportunities ( And Risks ) In 2024
K aseya ’ s most recent Cybersecurity Survey Report has good news and bad news for MSPs .
Here ’ s the good news first . The survey looked at the most common obstacles businesses face today and the threats of tomorrow they need to anticipate , and the results show that businesses are already taking cybersecurity more seriously in 2024 than ever before .
The bad news ? There is always more to do when it comes to keeping your customers protected against cyber threats , and if you are not aggressive at staying ahead , you will lose .
That said , there are three pain points MSPs can help customers address to maintain a lead : evolving cyberattacks , vulnerabilities due to systematic changes in the workforce , and an overall lack of cybersecurity awareness training and education .
“ Bad actors are constantly evolving , so it is more important than ever that MSPs address the problems that are within their control ,” says Mike Puglia , GM of Security for Kaseya . “ While we hear the ‘ gloom and doom ’ of cyberattacks , it ’ s important to remember that applying basic principles on a consistent basis can greatly improve the security posture of your clients .”
Money Is A Motivator
Your MSP clients need to minimize cybersecurity incidents to prevent lost revenue and lost productivity , and to reduce the need to pay recovery expenses . And yet :
• More than half of survey respondents lost $ 50,000 or more in a cybersecurity incident ,
• More than one-third of respondents lost $ 100,000 or more , and
• 21 % lost a whopping $ 250,000 or more .
In today ’ s challenging economy , no business can afford this kind of monetary loss , making high-quality cybersecurity safeguards mission critical .
Plan , Plan , And Plan Some More !
In addition to a monetary hit , a successful cyberattack is extremely damaging and potentially fatal to a business . In 2023 , cyberattacks targeting small businesses reached a record three-year high . Kaseya ’ s survey found that within the next 12 months , 78 % of respondents think they will be hit by phishing attacks and 58 % think they ’ ll be hit by ransomware .
Having a plan that is battle-tested can mitigate damage from a cyberattack and potentially save a client ’ s business . Yet only 46 % of survey respondents have a formal incident response ( IR ) plan in place and perform periodic drills and tabletop exercises to test it . And more than 20 % of respondents don ’ t have an IR plan in place at all .
If you ’ re not creating IR plans for your clients , your competitors will .
Be Proactive
Often the most helpful technologies are the least adopted today , leaving plenty of opportunities for MSPs to upsell additional security services .
