In October 2014, we advertised for Employment Specialist and Recruiter ConnectTM volunteer positions with the prospect of becoming Independent Contractor positions. I received an email from a military spouse inquiring about the positions and telling me that she’s not sure if she should apply. I checked her resume and advised her to apply. She applied, went through the interview, and was selected to become a volunteer with CASY & MSCCN. Later, I received an email from her thanking me for pushing her to apply and telling that she was extended the offer to become an Independent Contractor. I still have tears in my eyes remembering the email and the phone call I made to her to thank her for the email.
How do you push through hard times and challenges?
I am blessed with a very loving and supporting husband and also a great team.
I truly believe that challenges make us stronger, give us the opportunity to learn from them, and everything we’ve experienced has given us the upper hand for dealing with everything we have yet to experience. Having the right mindset is half the battle to push through hard times and challenges that life throws at us. Taking one challenge at a time, planning how to overcome it, how to solve it, staying strong, and believing in myself helps me conquer the challenges that life throws at me.
A personal and professional success is when you achieve your goals and, at the end of the day, you are satisfied with what you accomplished during the day. A team success is when your whole team or program is a success. I think my biggest successes are both personal and team success: when I receive emails from our volunteers thanking me for the opportunity they received to volunteer with us and telling me that because of this opportunity, they were able to find a job.

What do you hope to accomplish in 2015 and beyond?
My biggest goal is to see the Career Corps Volunteer Program grow and thrive and be able to help as many military spouses and veterans as possible.
