TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SALARY NEGOTIATIONS:

1. Research the position and the salary associated with that position by using calculators found on websites such as glassdoor.com and salary.com.

2. Become familiar with your market value. Use websites such as payscale.com to determine your value based upon factors such as experience and education.

3. Money isn’t everything! Take into consideration other factors that are important to have in a new position such as vacation and sick time, the opportunity for upward mobility, generous insurance packages and the potential for bonuses.

4. Calculate your bottom line number before you begin negotiations.

The question of salary can certainly make or break a job interview and negotiations. The more knowledge you have about the position, the average salary for that position and what you are worth, the better equipped you will be to address that question. Once armed with information, you are set to give an accurate salary range for the position for which you are applying. Keep in mind that you have the most bargaining power after you’ve impressed your prospective employer and before you’ve accepted the position.
