My Day
Day to day , my role is very varied . One day is never the same as the next , our daily activities are dictated by the flying programme .
As a team we complete daily ACHE and vehicle checks , ensure passenger bags and freight are loaded and stowed safely onto departing aircraft and unload any inbound aircraft .
We are supported by a team of personnel from the United Kingdom Mobile Air Movements Squadron . They work alongside us on shift when they are not deployed across the world .
We are encouraged to keep fit , given time to go to the gym and can take part in wing or station AT . My shift Rota provides plenty of time to see my family and friends and maintain a healthy , balanced way of life .
My Experiences
There are a whole host of incredible experiences to be had as an RAF mover both in your spare time and at work . In 2019 I was deployed to RAF Akrotiri for a three-month period supporting the permanent movements staff stationed there . This experience gave me a greater understanding of movements around the world and how we help enable other areas of the military through our role . I have also been on tasking trips to Canada , Norway and Cyprus ; each task offering the opportunity to use my skills and knowledge learnt in training to move freight and passengers whilst on the go .
Back at RAF Brize Norton , the traffic team played a key role in helping repatriate the British nationals from Wuhan , China during the Corona Virus outbreak . We also frequently use our ACHE to load and unload aircraft from other countries , such as Antonovs from Ukraine and smaller jets from places such as Germany and the Netherlands .
Outside of the day job , I have been on two Adventure Training skiing trips to Austria to gain my Ski Foundation qualification , learning leadership , team building and agility skills ( whilst on skis !); and have also been part of a flag bearing party at both the England v Slovakia world cup qualifying football match and at a Barbarians vs New Zealand Rugby match . These experiences I will never forget .
