Members of the Women ’ s Federated Club of Moultrie put together bags of food for those in need in Moultrie at the club ’ s Annual Soup Kitchen event .
The members of the Women ’ s Federated Club of Moultrie collected items for the Colquitt County Food Bank to bless families in the area during the Christmas season . Past President Mary Braggs , left , and member Elizabeth Johnson are shown with the items before delivering them to the food bank . clubs around Moultrie , one of which was a mentoring program called the “ Gems ” club , which was founded at Williams Middle School . It teaches girls etiquette and how they can make a difference in their school , community , and their world .
Jones spoke about how , as
Gems , they turned into ladies . They decided to build off what she established and created , a ladies club at the high school on the same premise of teaching young girls how to be remarkable and successful individuals .
Guidance is a key part of the development of children . I was curious as to what advice Jones would be given to a little girl on her journey through life .
“ Figure out what ways you want to be and get in those circles , surround yourself with people who are like minded ,” she said .
“ I glean from all of these older ladies , most of them are old enough to be my grandmother , and to say that I lead these women that inspired me to promote and engage in learning how to be a lady ,” said Jones .
The Women ’ s Federated Club has a long-standing involvement in working in the community . They donate to the Boys and Girls Club and they get involved when the Boys and Girls Club have events or functions . WFC is also a part of NAMI , the National Alliance of Mental Illness , because the community has many who deal with mental challenges .
“ Education is the key that unlocks the golden door to freedom ,” said George Washington Carver .
The importance of higher learning is a key factor in WFC . Every year it gives a scholarship to a student in the community that goes towards continuing their education .
