As far as the jewelry side of his business , he said that he had the jewelry from the beginning but not as much as he has now . He said he ’ d go to estate sales and they all had jewelry .
“ I just started with , basically , the estate jewelry and , in 1996 , we did the full jewelry line where we can just order from the companies and order diamonds direct ,” he said .
Now , there are eight jewelry cases in the store with both costume and real pieces and both new and estate pieces . He said they also do custom made jewelry , so , if , for example , you wanted to change a ring into a pendant or earrings , you could have it done . Another thing they offer is the chance to upgrade jewelry like diamond earrings .
“ If you can only afford a half a carat , right now , if you keep your paperwork and , in two years , you want to go to a carat , we ’ ll give you the money back that you paid on the half a carat to upsize your piece of jewelry ,” he said .
He also said that they also have a bridal registry and they always offer their customers free delivery and gift wrapping .
I asked him what he liked to collect , when it came to collecting antiques , and he laughed and said , right now , his house was full so he hasn ’ t been collecting much anymore .
However , he said that he has a lot of Roseville Pottery and Watt Pottery and he also collects biscuit jars , crystal perfume bottles and cut glass items both clear and cranberry colored .
“ I have a little bit of everything at home ,” he said . “ And I ’ ve kept different things over the years from different estates . I always try to keep , especially if I know the people , which nine times out of ten I do … I keep one or two pieces just so I ’ ll remember where it came from and who ’ s it was .”
He also said that , when he first started out , he bought used furniture pieces and displays from stores that were closing in Chattanooga and Atlanta and refinished them himself with the help of the ladies who worked in the store with him .
“ Janet and Dianne and all the girls that worked with me , in between customers , we ’ d be stripping and sanding ,” he said . “ I ’ ve had a lot of help along the way .”
