After a disastrous 2023 , when it finished last in the Constructor ’ s Championship , Honda has upped its efforts considerably over the winter months . At the Sepang test there were more technicians present , while it has called upon Alex Baumgärtel , the genius behind Moto2 chassis designer Kalex , as a consultant .
Testing showed HRC is taking the game seriously again . “ We could see many new parts , a lot of changes inside the team , inside of Honda , and it ’ s clear they want to move on from this situation ,” said lead rider Joan Mir .
For 2024 , the RC213V has been completely redesigned . The bike is much lighter than last year ’ s model , with improvements also coming with its engine and power delivery . Yet last year ’ s huge deficit – acceleration – is still present . What ’ s more , Austin showcased the new bike has lost lasy year ’ s machine ’ s biggest strength – braking performance and corner entry . “ Now we ’ re worst there ,” said Mir .
But with an intense testing programme planned for this year , both Repsol Honda riders expect results to pick up once into the second half of the year and have already tested another new concept of machine .

HRC vuole tornare a fare sul serio . “ Abbiamo ottenuto molte nuove parti e ci sono stati molti cambiamenti all ’ interno del team , nonché della Honda . È chiaro che vogliono superare questa situazione ”, ha detto Joan Mir .
Per il 2024 , la RC213V è stata completamente riprogettata . La moto è molto più leggera rispetto allo scorso anno , con miglioramenti anche per quanto riguarda il motore . Resta però il grande punto debole : l ’ accelerazione . Ad Austin inoltre i piloti non hanno potuto contare sui principali punti di forza dell ’ anno scorso , in frenata e ingresso di curva . “ Ora siamo messi peggio ”, ha detto Mir .
Visto l ’ intenso programma di test previsto per quest ’ anno , i due piloti del Repsol Honda Team si aspettano dei miglioramenti soprattutto da metà stagione in avanti . Nel frattempo , hanno già testato un nuovo concept della moto .
