Every once in a while, life comes unwound.
While most storms are fairly predictable and easily weathered,
occasionally, there’s one with all the forces of nature at its beck and call.
Damn near impossible to predict where landfall is going to occur, you’re
lucky if you get just enough warning to take cover because it’s going to
get bad.
As the storm crests the horizon it becomes easier to see the maelstrom
building and the fear may rise in your gut. Every once in a while; however,
you might find yourself out in the open with little warning and no
protection from the approaching fury. Too late to undertake constructive
measures to change the storm’s course, the best you can hope for is to
find somewhere safe and warm to ride it out.
I bet you thought I was talking about a real storm!!! Well, in a manner of
speaking, I am. However, just recently, I hadn’t been paying attention to
the “weather” around me and the wicked storm caught me flat-footed and
unaware.
And while I may look like and act like a superhero, I don’t own a pair
of Wonder Woman’s invisible bracelets to deflect the storm, so I wisely
choose to run for cover!
Fortunately, I quickly found a little nook where my small self curled
up tightly in a small ball out of its direct path. As the storm’s fury
edged nearer my hiding place, I took a deep breath, found my center
anticipating a direct hit.
Funny thing, in that moment, I remembered who I am and what I stand
for. The storm never hit me. Instead, I found myself shielded as its fury
raged around me. Enclosed within a protective bubble of bright, golden
light, I watched the storm ravage the adjacent landscape, a silent witness
– calm and unafraid.
Unable to find an energy source to recharge its pounding ferocity, the
storm quickly dissipated, leaving disarray in its wake. Surveying the
damage, I saw only desolation and churned earth. And then I noticed it – a
small, undisturbed sprout, delicate tendrils peeking out in the midst of
upheaval. And just so you know, we still have green patches that keep
growing – even after a fierce winter storms!
