his eminent Victorian was grand in its
day, but needed serious updating. It
was purchased last spring by Highland
Property Partners, whose principals,
Thomas Zazmark and his husband, Michael
Schiff, are Realtors at Keller Williams NJ Metro
Group in Montclair. “We like to take a historic
property and modernize it for today, but not take
away its design elements,” says Schiff. The two
hired Wyanoke Builders, a family-owned,
Montclair-based business run by Glenn, Daren
and Brandon Rogers, to do the major renovation.
“We wanted to respect the bones of the house,
and to keep and restore original details like the
parquet floors, the rounded plaster work in the
turret and the original staircases,” says Daren
Rogers, who holds a degree in architecture from
Cooper Union. “But we wanted to make it a
space that a modern family would enjoy.”
Wyanoke installed a three-zone central heating
and cooling system, new plumbing, insulation,
200-amp electrical service, recessed and LED
lighting; a security alarm system, integrated
thermostats, dimmers and other features that
may be controlled with a smart phone.
