Bottom left: A vintage wooden
“hall tree” was brown until Gilmore
held a paint party, where Shelhorse
helped friends redo their own pieces;
Gilmore distressed the wood under the
professional’s supervision. “We did it in
one evening with a lot of wine,” says
Gilmore. “The hall tree is in the foyer,
where you need a pop of color to
represent the real you.” Middle: The cast
iron table in Gilmore’s study comes from
a Montclair store that closed a few years
ago. She redid the “barrister’s bookcase”
with using paint from Verdigreen.
