Livingston, CEcD, CPM Director, Economic Development City of League City Local business owners are taking steps to improve their visibility online thanks to a combined effort of the City of League City, League City Regional Chamber of Commerce, League City Downtown Association, and Google. “Let’s Put League City on the Map!” is a part of a larger Google program called “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map!”, which seeks to increase the web presence of local businesses around the country. Google partners with over 30,000 cities across the United States by providing free materials and online tutorials that support local business owners and trains them how to design a free website, create an online business profile on Google Maps, and advertise online. According to Emily Harris, Manager of Google’s “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map!”, “4 out of 5 consumers use search engines to find local information nearby, yet only 37% of businesses have claimed their listing on a search engine.” Classes for “Let’s Put League City on the Map!” are led by CCISD Junior Annie Figueroa, who is an intern with the Economic Development Department of the City of League City. Annie organized the class, promoted the class to local business owners, and currently serves as the class instructor. Staff of the City of League City and the League City Regional Chamber of Commerce have been instrumental in supporting this initiative. The League City Regional Chamber of Commerce will offer future classes of “Let’s Put League City on the Map!” to all businesses in League City, and participation is FREE.
