Local business owners are taking steps to improve
their visibility online thanks to a combined effort
of the City of League City, League City Regional
Chamber of Commerce, League City Downtown
Association, and Google.
“Let’s Put League City on the Map!” is a part of
a larger Google program called “Let’s Put Our
Cities on the Map!”, which seeks to increase
the web presence of local businesses around
the country. Google partners with over 30,000
cities across the United States by providing free
materials and online tutorials that support local
business owners and trains them how to design a
free website, create an online business profile on
Google Maps, and advertise online.
According to Emily Harris, Manager of Google’s
“Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map!”, “4 out of 5
consumers use search engines to find local
information nearby, yet only 37% of businesses
have claimed their listing on a search engine.”
Classes for “Let’s Put League City on the Map!”
are led by CCISD Junior Annie Figueroa, who
is an intern with the Economic Development
Department of the City of League City. Annie
organized the class, promoted the class to local
business owners, and currently serves as the class
instructor. Staff of the City of League City and the
League City Regional Chamber of Commerce
have been instrumental in supporting this
initiative.
The League City Regional Chamber of Commerce
will offer future classes of “Let’s Put League City
on the Map!” to all businesses in League City,
and participation is FREE. For more information,

Local businesses play an important role in League
City’s economy, and leaders from the City,
Downtown Association, and Chamber recognize
that many local businesses may significantly
benefit by expanding their online presence. As
reported by some estimates, businesses that
are online grow 40% faster than companies that
have no web presence. Therefore, one of the
objectives of this initiative is to increase the
