Discrimination
Racism can be subtle, but sometimes you turn around and it's right in your face
Discrimination can be seen everywhere. If you don't meet societies expectations, you are automatically a target of discrimination. Racism occurs everywhere, whether it's in school, at work, by the government, or even if you're just walking down the street. Stereotyping ties into racism because it's common foundation are assumptions. There are plenty of stereotypical remarks that are attached to each nationality. You may have heard that african-Americans are always associated with criminal activity, Muslims are terrorists, Asians can't drive and other absurd comments. These are beliefs that are previously set by society that are automatically associated
sassociated with a certain race when you take a glimpse of them.
The thing about racism is that it can be subtle, but sometimes you turn around and it's right in yourface. .
Sometimes it's harder to catch because with the way people talk these days , everyone is used to these remarks that it comes off as something that is said everyday.
What's sad is that racism is portrayed by the same people who are supposed to be enforcing our laws and making citizens safe; the police.
who are supposed to be enforcing our laws and making citizens safe; the police. Racial profiling is when police officers stop and interrogate people just by seeing their race. It occurs all the time, but since they're law enforcers , the discipline is passive. Here are some reasons why racism starts and occurs in socety:
1. Media
2 History of how the hierarchy was
3. Through our experiences as we are growing up
Unfortunately, racism is a con that will always be present within society, and it looks as if won't ever be demolished. Hopefully, as the younger generations grow up, they will teach their kids that discrimination is not something to be proud of doing. Everyone is equal.
